NEW CD featuring Apollo Saxophone Quartet: Keith Tippett – The Monk Watches the Eagle
Released in memory of Keith Tippett, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Keith wrote a fantastic work for the ASQ – “Five Short Pieces & four Whispers for Archie’s Chair” in 2004, which we released on our Perspectives CD. Later that same year, the quartet were privileged to be part of his major work for 8 saxophones – a classical saxophone quartet (Apollo), a jazz quartet Paul Dunmall, Kevin Figes, Ben Waghorn & Chris Biscoe – singer and librettist Julie Tippetts, and the BBC Singers. Recorded in Norwich Cathedral, and broadcast live on Radio 3 at the time, the BBC have beautifully remastered the audio, and released this stunning CD on the Discus label. It really is an astounding musical narrative, and Keith creates some unique and entrancing musical soundscapes.
